Around the Island: Sunrise Campers tour Wagner College Planetarium

Sunday, April 28, campers from Sunrise Day Camp were
treated to a special tour of the Wagner College Planetarium
as part of their “Sunrise Sunday” programming. In addition to
the Planetarium tour, campers experienced a full day of activities,
including playtime in the gym, lunch, and a special musical performance
from Wagner’s Vocal Synergy group.

Sunrise Day Camp is the world’s first full-summer day camp for
children with cancer and their siblings, provided completely free
of charge. The fun, friendship, and smiles continue year-round
through various camp-like programs and in-hospital services.
Lucille & Jay Chazanoff Sunrise Day Camp-Staten Island is a
proud member of the Sunrise Association, whose mission is to
bring back the joys of childhood to children with cancer and their
siblings worldwide through the creation of Sunrise Day Camps,
Year-Round Programs like Sunrise Sunday, and In-Hospital Recreational
Activities, all offered free of charge.

Sandy Haft, Camp Director, said, “For so many of our children,
visiting the planetarium in Manhattan would be impossible for
them due to their compromised immune systems. Having our private
show at the Wagner College Planetarium was very special. We
are so grateful to them for giving our kids such an unforgettable
day.”

“I believe that I got just as much joy out of Sunday’s event as our
campers did. Seeing their smiles and providing the kids with even
a few moments of fun is such a rewarding feeling,” said John Carrescia,
Chief Financial Officer and Vice President for Finance and
Administration at Wagner College.
