The 5th Annual Staten Island CareerCon to bring together HS students, local businesses, and colleges to educate and collaborate

Staten Island, New York – The Carl V. Bini Foundation, Partners in Sound Productions, The Staten Island Chamber of Commerce, the NYC Department of Education’s Staten Island Field Office, St. John’s University, Wagner College, and the College of Staten Island are all teaming up to host the 5th Annual Staten Island CareerCon at St John’s University on March 6th, 2019 from 9:30am to 1:00pm. This innovative career fair is designed to introduce students to various career and college pathways, while giving business owners and hiring managers an opportunity to meet and engage with the future of Staten Island’s workforce.

“As we prepare for our fifth year, we continue to be encouraged by the excitement from both students and employers eager to connect at CareerCon,” said Chamber President and CEO Linda Baran. “This year’s fair includes a diverse set of employers ranging from the tech industry to small ‘mom & pop’ businesses. Students will be exposed to various industries and can begin visualizing a career path. With major ongoing economic development leading to more jobs on Staten Island, this event furthers the Chamber’s goal in preparing today’s youth for tomorrow.”

Over 700 Staten Island high school students will meet with over 70 industry leaders to discover career and internship opportunities and will receive information on various college certificate and admissions programs. Students will also be exposed to workshops on resume building, 21st Century jobs, STEM careers, professionalism, and other career-focused topics.

“Our organization is dedicated to helping the community,” said Massimo DiDonna, President and Chairman of The Carl V. Bini Memorial Fund. “Partnering with The Chamber of Commerce and St. John’s for CareerCon will help put high school students on the right path for their future, and we’re proud to be a part of it.”

This event is being hosted with the additional support of United Activities Unlimited, 30,000 Degrees, Transition and College Access Center, and the College of Staten Island.

“At St. John’s University, student success is our top priority.  We are proud to be hosting CareerCon for the fourth consecutive year, and even prouder of the many successful alumni who graduated from our Staten Island campus.  We are truly partners in career preparation and readiness with the NYC Department of Education and the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce” says Dr. Robert Fanuzzi, Associate Provost and Director of Civic Engagement for St. John’s University.
